A Time to Be Born
William Lynwood Jackson, Jr. (known to family as Butch and to friends as Billy), was born on August 18,
1944 to the late William Lynwood Jackson Sr. and the late Angelia Crawley Jackson in Richmond,
Virginia. In 1945 the family relocated to New York City. There he was educated in New York City public schools and received his high school diploma from George Washington High School where he
participated in track and field. Baptized at an early age, Butch learned to love the Lord and he often attended Bethany Baptist Church with his grandmother.
A Time to Love
After graduation from high school, Butch attended Virginia Union University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. There he met and married his first wife, Marilyn Taylor. He later met and married his second wife, Diane Jackson. In 1995, he married, his third wife, Deborah Jean Witcher who remained by his side until his departure from this life.
A Time to Live
Receiving his Masters of Business Administration in Management from Pace University, Butch worked as
an auditor and financial manager before taking a job, in 1981, with Federal Express Corporation where
he served for many years as a highly regarded Financial Analyst. Yet, he always had an entrepreneurial spirit and while working fulltime began a part-time business preparing taxes. His clientele began to grow and in 1994, a partnership which is now known as Jackson, Jackson, Grubb and Ballard an accounting and tax preparation firm was formed. In 1999, Butch retired from Federal Express Corporation to continue to advance his growing tax business. He became a resident of the Township of Teaneck, New Jersey in the early 1970s and in his latter years served on the Township Advisory Board on Community Relations.
Butch led a very active life, and was involved in many social and political organizations. As a teenager, he was an active member of the Minisink Cadets, the Order of the Feather Fraternity, and played the bugle with the Minisink Drum and Bugle Corp. He served as a Reserved Commissioned Officer in the Army Reserve from 1968-1970. As he got older, he developed a love for photography and was seldom seen without a camera in his hand. He would develop the pictures in a darkroom created in a closet in his apartment. He also became known for his sense of style. Always the fashion statement, he was interviewed and featured in Mens Wear Magazine in May 1975. But, the one thing most remember
about Butch is his love for music and dancing. He was often referred to as the dancing man for he had
his own unique dancing style.
Butch loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his family and was always eager to assist. He
maintained a hard-charging and aggressive style, but those close to him also knew his warm, engaging
and compassionate side. All that knew him will remember his generous and giving spirit. If you needed a helping hand, he would give you twoalways willing and eager to help in any way that he could.
A Time to Rest
On Tuesday, July 30th, after a brief illness, our beloved Butch, departed this life at Holy Name
