Samuel “Sambo” Edward Jennings

Samuel Edward Jennings, age 75 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Friday November 8, 2019. Born in Halifax, VA on August 8, 1944 to Samuel Jennings and Mable Jones-Jennings. Educated in the Halifax Public School system, Samuel was a self-taught jack of all trades, but he worked primarily as a local mechanic and landscaper. He enjoyed the challenge of solving complex car issues and rebuilding cars from the ground up. In his free time, you would find Samuel fishing, he enjoyed taking trips to Delaware for fishing excursions with his cousin Junior. Samuel also was an avid gardener, he loved planting collards, tomatoes, string beans and cucumbers every year! Family was very important to Samuel; he was very protective of all his sisters. A true staple in his family, Samuel was known for assisting his nieces and nephews any way that he could. Samuel was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend.
Samuel is survived by his sister Catherine Jefferson; his sons, Samuel Allen Younger & Steven Edmonds (aka Jean); his stepchildren, Roberta, James, Kendon, Franklin, and Roosevelt McClain. He has 3 nieces that he refers to as "the daughters he never had" Evelyn Jennings, Theresa Alers, and Joyce Womack. Samuel was loved and cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Samuel was pre-deceased by his wife Jennie Jennings; his siblings, Dorothy Jackson, Shirley Jennings, Edith Alers, & Mable Jennings.
Funeral Services will be held Friday November 15, 2019 at 11:00am at Baker-Isaac Funeral Chapel, 985 Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport, CT. The family will receive guest from 10:00am until time of service at the chapel. Interment will take place immediately after the service at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street Bridgeport, CT.
