Eddie J. Mercer Obituary (1944

Eddie James Mercer was born on February 25, 1944 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Deacon D.C. Mercer and Mrs. Lilly Mae Hamilton-Mercer. At an early age he joined the Friendship Baptist Church in Leslie, Ga. He worked for the town of Westport, CT and retired in 2009. In the year of 1988, he married his loving and dedicated wife Emma Jean Mercer. He leaves to cherish one daughter Octavia Henry Wilson and five Stepdaughters: Tammy Owens (Joe) Americus, Ga. Pamela Holt, Bridgett Holt, Vickie Holt and Cynthia Cohen all of Bridgeport CT. 10 grandchildren (including a devoted grandson, Jayvon Hawthorne), and 2 great grandchildren. Four sisters: Mrs. Ann James of Acworth, Ga., Mrs. Earnestine Cooper of Delray Beach, Fl., Mrs. Alberta Jacobs of Ellenwood, GA. and Miss Sarah Mercer of Boca Raton, FL. Three brothers, Mr. Johnny Mercer of Americus, GA, Mr. Jessie (Dorothy) Mercer of Stone Mountain, GA,. Mr. Emory Charles Mercer of Leslie, GA. Brother-in-Laws, Henry Lee Battle (Alice), David Battle, Two aunts, Mamie Pittman of Americus, GA and Bertha Jones from New Jersey. He also leaves a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
