Captain Nelson P. Kearney, Sr. Obituary (1938

Nelson P. Kearney, Sr. of Bridgeport, Connecticuted departed this life on Friday, December 15, 2006 at home. Nelson was the devoted husband of 10 years to Verna C. (Brown) Kearney. He was born on June 10, 1938 in Bridgeport, Ct; to the late Joseph Bennett and Celesta Green Kearney and was educated in the Bridgeport School System. In 1962 he was honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces where he served as a combat veteran in the Vietnam War as well as the 82nd Airborne Ranger Battalion. After his departure from the military he was employed as an orderly at the Fairfield Hills Hospital and later with Carpenter steel. In 1968 he joined the Bridgeport Police Department as a patrolman and worked his way up to the positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant and to the current as a Captain which is the 3rd highest ranking position. Captain Kearney was the sole surviving founding member of the Bridgeport Guardians. He was a member of East End Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In addition to his dear wife, survivors include six daughters: Donna (Kenny ) Foster of Hamden,CT; Jody (Darren) Miller of Las Vegas,NV; Tiffany Ryan of New Haven,CT; Christal Cook of Philadelphia, PA; Kimberly Cook of Wilmington, DE; Chynll Kearney of Bridgeport,CT; and five sons: Nelson ( Grace) Kearney Jr. of Bpt; Bryan ( Theresa) Kearney of Hamden CT; Joseph (Sharlene) Wallace III of Bowie, MD; Aaron Kearney Sr. of Hamden, CT; Jason (Erika)Wallace West Palm Beach, FL; five sisters; Josephine Dennis of Colorado Springs, CO; Lillian Colquit of Wilson, NC; Constance (Ricky) Williams of Clinton, MD; Deatrice Carter of Bpt; Denise Granger of Bpt; three brothers; Thomas (Millie) Romano of Shelton, Ct; Kenneth Anderson of Bpt; Stanford Anderson of Mt. Vernon, NY; Mother in-law, Verna Brown of Bpt; twenty two grandchildren and two great grands; in adddition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Masio Kearney. Funeral services were December 23, 2006. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
