Bridgeport, Connecticut
Rev. Woodrow Cochran, age 69 of Bridgeport, Connecticut entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. He was affectionately known as "Woody".
Rev. Cochran was born February 27, 1948 in Conway, S.C. to the late Joe and Ostina Cochran.
He was a devout Man of God who loved the study of the Word; not for intellect but for character transformation. Rev. Cochran was known for his quiet and humble spirit. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke he imparted wisdom. He focused on the Promises of God and shared his strong faith with his family, congregation, friends and acquaintances. In his spare time he enjoyed counseling and working with his hands to assist others in achieving their goals of home or church beautification. He was also a black belt in karate.
He left Conway, SC after graduating high school and moved to Bridgeport, CT. He obtained employment at Rolock, Inc., in Fairfield, CT and remained employed until the plant closed.
He graduated in 1995 from the Connecticut Institute of Christian Religion in conjunction with the School of Theology of Virginia Union University and was under the tutelage of the late Rev. Dr. William O. Johnson and Rev. Dr. James Cook who later ordained him to the ministry.
He Pastored the New Covenant Church of God in Bridgeport, CT for 21 years. We realize now, God was preparing him to transition from labor to rest when he retired from the ministry in June, 2017.
Rev. Cochran met and fell in love with Shirley J. Rucker and they were united in Holy Matrimony on September 8, 1979 and to this union were born two children; Daron L. Cochran and Shaniece N. Cochran.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Shirley of 38 years; sons, Woodrow Spain (Carla) of Creedmoor, NC, and Daron L. Cochran (Joy) of West Haven, CT, and daughter,
Shaniece N. Cochran, of Bridgeport, CT.; four brothers, Joe Miller Cochran, Tommie Cochran, and Robert Cochran of Conway, SC and Cornell Cochran of Bridgeport, CT.; and one sister, Geneive Bellamy (Jerome) of Columbia, SC; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father and mother Joe and Ostina Cochran; brothers: James Cochran, Wendell Cochran and Ezell Cochran.
