Virginia Patrice Hughes Obituary (1945

Virginia P. Hughes died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, Connecticut after a long illness. Virginias education and training placed her in many capacities throughout her life as an educator and social worker. Ginny, as she was known by her many friends graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and graduate degree from the University of Bridgeport. Virginia was a resident of Wallingford for many years, but had spent much of her adult life in New Haven. She taught at Troupe Middle School and Wilbur Cross High School, New Haven and later found herself at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecticut where she worked as a counselor. Virginia finished her professional life as Director of the Multicultural Advancement Program at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. Virginia was predeceased by her parents the late Ferris Arthur and Evelyn Howell Hughes. She is survived by her only sibling; Stephany Hughes Giles, her brother-in-law, Rev. Carleton J. Giles, several aunts and many cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown, Connecticut 06457 with a reception to follow in the churchs fellowship hall. Virginias remains will be returned home to Cleveland, Ohio where she will be interred with her parents. Memorial contributions in Virginias name may be made to the Zion First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
