Thelma F. Whitaker Williams Obituary (1942

Thelma Florence W. Williams devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and wife of the late Marshall P. Williams departed this life September 1, 2008, after a brief illness in Bridgeport Hospital. She was born to the late Ross and Rachel Keys Whitaker on December 9, 1942 in Camden, South Carolina. She attended Norwalk Public Schools. She worked as an assistant with James Elam and Herman Morgan Cleaning Services for many years. Later she worked for NEON Head Start Program also the Fairfield Day Care Center. Additionally, she worked as a Teaching Assistant and various other positions. Thelma was a member of Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she served on the Usher Board. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Calvin K. Whitaker & Garrick P. Williams of Bridgeport, CT; three daughters Vanessa L., Sonja M., and Lynette D. Whitaker, 1 stepdaughter Connie Williams all of Bridgeport, CT; 1 stepson Jimmy Flores of Newport News, VA; and niece & nephew Edith and Irving McClendon both of whom she raised. Additionally, she leaves five sisters Pearlena (Joe) Davis, Barbara (Alonzo) Glover of Norwalk, CT; Christina W. White, Phyllis L. Harrison both of Bridgeport, CT; Mary E. (Earl) McHoney of Daly City, CA; one Uncle George M. Keys of Norwalk, CT; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grands, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, and friends. In addition to her parents, one son Horace (Jock) Williams, one stepson Marshall P. (Turk) Williams, one sister, Rosezena McClendon, and one brother Ross Whitaker, Jr. preceded her in death. Funeral Services are 10:00AM Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, 31 Concord Street, Norwalk, CT with Rev. Monroe Butler, Pastor of MT Pisgah MB Church, Bridgeport, CT officiating and Rev. Roosevelt Ewell as Host Pastor.
