Shakia Shante Whitehurst, of Stratford, CT departed this life on Thursday, September 24, 2020. She was born on April 28, 1978 in Stamford, CT. Shakia was the daughter of Connie Whitehurst and Ronald Johnson. "Kia" as she was affectionally called, was educated in the public school system of Stamford, CT. She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT in 1996. She also attended Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT where she graduated and received her Associates Degree in 2004. Shakia was a former employee of Silver Hills Hospital, New Canaan, CT, where she was employed as a Senior Medical Biller. She leaves to cherish her memories, her parents, Connie Whitehurst of New Haven, CT and Ronald Johnson of Sugar Hill, GA; 1 son, Damien Pirro, Jr. of New Haven, CT and 2 daughters, Journee Pirro of Bridgeport, CT and Saige Walker of Stratford, CT; 2 brothers, Jared Miller of Norfolk, VA and Ronald Johnson, Jr. of Sugar Hill, GA; 1 sister, Kayla Johnson of Sugar Hill, GA; Her adopted siblings, Latoya Whitehurst of Bridgeport, CT, Gregory Sayles, Jr., of Norwalk, CT, Granetta Sayles and Derrick Sayles, both of West Haven, CT; Her maternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Whitehurst of Stamford, CT and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Connie J. Joyner and her paternal grandparents, Edward and Ida Johnson; her aunts, Paulet Sayles, Terri Bryant-Ellis, Ida Mae and Diane Johnson; and her uncles, Paul Douglas Whitehurst, Edward Jr., Thomas, Jimmy and Kenny Johnson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 3 pm 5 pm with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 5 pm at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 729 Union Street, Bridgeport, CT. Reverend Nathaniel Burnes will be officiating. Interment will take place at Centerville Cemetery, Washington Ave, Hamden CT.
