Roger Shelton, Jr. Obituary (1934

Roger Shelton, Jr. 73 of Bridgeport, Connecticut departed this life on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Saint Vincents Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was born March 3, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Roger Shelton, Sr. and Sara Foster Shelton. He later moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut and remained for the rest of his life. Roger attended Kimball High School in Welch, Virginia and West Virginia State University. He served in the United States Army from 1956 through 1958 and received the Purple Heart Award. He worked as the Executive Director of University Residential Facility, a group home for boys and made a significant difference in their lives. He was an avid golfer, traveling throughout the world playing golf, and a great friend to many people. He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing eight children, Roger (Eliott) Shelton (of Atlanta, Georgia); Chad Shelton, Jeffrey Shelton, Terrianne Shelton (of Norwalk, CT); Tnori Shelton (of Bridgeport, CT); Sheila Payne and Valetia Tyree (of West Virginia); and Kelly Shelton (of Williamston, North Carolina); He also leaves nine grandchildren, Marquis Shelton, Raekwon Shelton, Jacob Shelton (all of Atlanta, Georgia), Charles Shelton (of Virginia); Jovanna Tyree (Columbus Ohio); Trina Sweeney, Melanie Mills, Michelle Mills and Aaron Mills (all of West Virginia); 4 great grandchildren, aunt Roberta McCray, and cousin Robert Shelton, a large, extended family, and a host of relatives and friends; he also leaves a devoted caretaker and beloved companion, Morgan Margaret Petty of Norwalk, Connecticut. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roger, Dad, Grandpa God took you home; you found your rest; for to us, you were the very best.
