Prentiss Tomlin

–

Lithia Springs, Georgia

Prentiss Carl Tomlin, Jr., fondly known as Tom, entered this world on September 6, 1961, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Prentiss Covington Tomlin, Sr., and Oneida Virginia Nedab Tomlin. At the tender age of 2, his family relocated to Bridgeport, CT, where he would embark on a journey marked by passion, service, and love.

Tom received his education in the Bridgeport school system, culminating in his graduation from Warren Harding High School. A man of diverse interests, he immersed himself in electronics, he became a skilled D.J. and he achieved excellence in Martial Arts, which led to numerous competition victories and belts. At one competition event, an announcer humorously remarked on Tom's incredible kicking ability, stating he "wasn't sure if Mr. Prentiss had feet or yards" - a moment that brought laughter to all in attendance.

Tom's commitment to service extended to the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country. Subsequently, he pursued higher education at the University of New Haven and Excelsior University, ultimately earning his credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

A soft-spoken and gentle giant, Tom maintained strong connections with his family, becoming the constant link that bridged distances. His love for family extended to friends, defining him as a true and loyal companion.

Tom's heart found its match in Donna Jean Robertson, with whom he fell deeply in love. Their love story, beginning with a horse and carriage ride in New York City, led to a beautiful union on Christmas Eve in 1989.

His spiritual journey began when he was led to Christ by his sister. This journey continued when they relocated to Georgia, where he joined World Changers Church under Pastor Creflo Dollar. He loved and cherished the teachings, sermons and bible studies, and would print out the notes on the sermons and teachings. He also enjoyed the Mens Fellowship. Tom also looked forward to attending his sister and brother-in-laws church, Mt. Calvary UFWB Church in Brooklyn, NY on Family & Friends Day.

Aside from strawberry shortcake, one of the many things that Tom enjoyed was cooking in his Insta-Pot. It was an adventure and he enjoyed sharing his recipes.

Professionally, while residing in CT, Tom was employed with the VA Hospital and Continuum Home Care. After relocating to GA, he made a significant impact as a cancer nurse at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University Hospital in Georgia. However, life took a poignant turn in 2021 when his beloved Donna passed away, leaving a void in his heart.

Tom departed this life on December 4, 2023, while at home in Lithia Springs, GA, but his legacy will continue to live on through his family, many friends and the lives he has touched and the connections he has made.

Tom leaves behind a legacy of love and memories. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Katrina O. Dortch (Bishop Milton Hines Dortch) of Brentwood, NY; four daughters, Detisha Tomlin of Alexandria, VA, Shaurice Crenshaw (Shuwn Crenshaw) of Middletown, CT, Zulema Lminggio of West Haven, CT and Donna Powell of Meriden, CT; three sons, Prentiss "Tom" Tomlin, III of West Haven, CT; Carl Michael Tomlin of Bridgeport, CT; and Tavares Cooper of Greensboro, NC; ten grandchildren, Ayanna Tomlin, Joshua Lminggio, Jaequan Lminggio, Deon Lminggio, Kenya Thigpen, Aliyah Hawley, Elijah Hawley, Chevonna Thigpen, Nalonie Sewell and Serenity Harris; 3 great-grandchildren, Zuri Skye Lminggio, Ella Rane Cirino and Athena Deleon, 3 special brothers, Victor Butte (Catherine), Lee Bember (Denise), Mitchell Daniels (Michelle), and a host of other cherished family and friends.
