Millis Bridges Obituary (1918

Mother Millis Bridges, age 99, of Bridgeport CT, transitioned to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 7, 2017. She had been in the loving care of the Medical ICU staff of Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, CT. Mother Bridges was born on August 17, 1918, in Boynton Beach, FL. She was the daughter of the late Rev. James A. Butler and Irene Curry. She is predeceased by her twin brother James Willis Butler and five sisters: Hazel Rolle, Evon Holder, Blondeva Williams, Ethelyn Hayes and Shirley Frazier. Mother Bridges came to know the Lord at an early age and became a devoted member of St. Pauls AME Church in Boynton Beach. After making Bridgeport her home, she became a faithful and devoted member of Russell Temple CME Church. She served as a stewardess for many years and was crowned Queen at the Missionary Annual Day Queen Crowning, May 30, 2010. She was an excellent cook and entrepreneur, managing two cafes in Boynton Beach. She had a humble loving hearttaking care of the homeless and needy. Mother Bridges leaves to cherish her memory, one loving and devoted sister, Sarah Williams of Boynton Beach. Her loving care-giver was her dear cousin Francine Jackson and her sons Eric and Edmond. Also special were a beloved niece Sonya Murph of Boynton Beach, nephew Rev. Gary L. Butler (Betty) of West Palm Beach, FL, and cousins Barbara and Elrie Cooper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. And of course, her dear loved ones include a host of nephews and nieces. Notable friends includeMae Dickey, Carrie Smith, Carrie Jackson, Clara Free, Della and Shirley. Mother Bridges was especially proud of her Russell Temple CME Church family.
