Melvina R. Grant-Peters Obituary (1954

Melvina Punkin Grant-Peters Melvina, a lifelong Stamford resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. She was born in Stamford, CT on March 5, 1954 to Nathaniel Grant and Grace Davis Grant-Slaughter and was the step-daughter of Charles Slaughter. Melvina attended and received her diploma through the Stamford Public School System and obtained her Bachelors degree from the University of Bridgeport. She was employed at Housing Development Fund as a Homebuyers Educational Coordinator. Helping others and being active in the community is what she believed in. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and honesty. Melvina attended Greater Faith Baptist Church in Stamford, CT where she served as an usher and was the President of the Missionary Ministry. She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Nicole Beckham (Al), two sons Norman Peters and Michael Peters (Nay) all of Stamford, CT. Three grandchildren, Javier Peters, Aliyah Burke, and Alexa Peters. Two sisters, Charlene Slaughter- Davis of Stamford, CT and Elizabeth Slaughter- Kemp of Bridgeport, CT. One sister in law, Emma Davis of Norwalk, CT.; a host of family and friends and favorite aunt, Leola Pryor of Charleston, SC. Melvina was predeceased by her parents Nathaniel Grant, Grace Davis Grant-Slaughter, Charles Slaughter and one Brother, Joseph (Joey) Davis. Services will take place on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford, CT; Rev. Johhny C. Bush officiating. Viewing will take from 4-6 pm; service immediately following. Repast at Shining Star (Elks) Lodge, 33 Mission Street, Stamford, CT.
