Mary Brickhouse Newton Obituary (1933

Mary Ann (Nana) Brickhouse Newton, 87, of Norwalk, CT, departed this life on Sunday, October 25,2020. She was born on September 27th, 1933 in Eastville, Virginia, to William Brickhouse and Alice Purnell. In 1954 she moved to Harlem, NYC, but in 1958, she relocated to Norwalk, CT. She met Sigby Gene Newton in 1963 and they married on June 5th, 1999. Mary worked at Norwalk Hospital for over 30 years as a laundry supervisor until her retirement. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized on April 3rd, 1993 by Rev. Dr. Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr., New Light Missionary Baptist Church and on July 1, 1993, she was officially extended the righthand of fellowship. She was also member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church Gospel Choir, vacation bible school volunteer, and kitchen staff volunteer. Mary was predeceased by both her parents; sons, Gary Brickhouse and Ronald Brickhouse, all her siblings, William Brickhouse, Bessie Collins, Albert Lee Brickhouse, Robert Brickhouse, Lillian Brickhouse-Harmon, and Francis Brickhouse. She leaves behind those to cherish her memories, her husband, Sigby Gene Newton, her loving children; son, Curtis Brickhouse; two daughters, Janice Brickhouse Murray and Alice Brickhouse, son-in-law, William H. Murray and daughter-in-law, Diane Brickhouse, and one sister-in-law, Earlene Brickhouse-Scovens; She also leaves her many grandchildren to cherish her memories, Latoria Fogle Spain, Kawana Brickhouse, Kenneth Brickhouse, Todd Jones, Curtis Jr. Brickhouse, Laquanda Brickhouse, a special niece, Darlene Brickhouse, along with a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind ten beloved great grandchildren and three Godchildren. Mary was affectionately called Nana because she touched many lives and was loved by all who met her. She loved the Lord and she imparted wisdom to those who valued her council. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 10:00 AM, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 729 Union Ave, Bridgeport, CT. Family will receive guest from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave, Norwalk, CT.
