Lauretta Oliver Obituary (1913

Lauretta Oliver age 95 of Westport, CT passed away peacefully on July 26, 2009 at Wilton Meadows Convalescent Home in Wilton, CT. She was born December 26, 1913 in Columbia, SC and moved with her mother and brother to Norwalk, CT in the early 1920s, and attended local public schools. She married William Bland from which her daughter Rosemary was born. During the 2nd World War, she worked in the defense plant and later as a domestic worker. Widowed, she later married Grant Oliver. Lauretta was extremely interested in the world around her, and was well regarded by her family and friends for her ability to recall details of family history and historical facts of the world. She became a member of Bethel AME Church in Norwalk, CT, at a very young age and at the time of her death was the oldest living member of the Church. Her husband, Grant Oliver, parents Rose Holsey Austell and William Holsey Sr., her stepfather Leroy Austell, and a brother William (Jazz) Holsey Jr. predeceased Lauretta. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Stevens of Westport, CT. Two grandsons, Dr. William Robert Stevens and his wife Dr. Lynne Hoban of Scottsdale, AZ, and Gardner Stevens of Norwalk, CT, a great grandson, Jonathan, nieces and grand nieces and nephews, family and friends. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday July 31st, at Bethel AME Church, Merwin & Academy Streets, Norwalk, CT. Viewing is 10:00 a.m. until time of Services at the Church, and Interment at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut.
