John Henry Mattison, Sr. Obituary (1944

Christianity does not exempt one from death; it only ensures triumph over death. John Henry Mattison, Sr. departed this life on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 66 years of age. He was born in McCormick County on February 13, 1944, son of the late Jack Madison and Johnnie Mae Patterson Madison. John attended school in South Carolina, and later relocated to Connecticut where he met and married his beloved wife Alla Jane Mattison. They were married for nearly 40 years. Through this union, they created five beautiful children, two sons; Fernathian L. Mattison (Gina) of Bridgeport, John H. Mattison, Jr. (Lauren) of Waterbury, and three daughters; April L. Mattison, Vanessa J. Mattison and Valerie Mattison all of the home. In addition to his wife and children, John will be sadly missed by his eight grandchildren: Anecca, JourDan, Marcell, Alexis, Joshua, Jaden, Marquest, and John Mattison, III. And one grandchild preceded him in death, Maya.Other survivors include his six sisters: Miss Mary Madison, Mrs. Hattie Brown (Bobby), Mrs. Catherine Lee (Willie), Mrs. Martha Jackson (James) all of Abbeville, SC; Mrs. Rosetta Harris and Ms. Mattie Cox both of Bridgeport; three brothers: Mr. Moses Mattison and Mr. Joseph Mattison both of Abbeville, S; Mr. Jack Madison, Jr. (Geneva) of Bridgeport, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death: Ruth Madison, Lula Mae Madison and Robert Mattison. John was a proud employee with General Electric as a team leader before retiring with nearly 40 years of service. John was a member of Temple Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Bridgeport CT. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the church, 515 Union Avenue, Bridgeport at 11:00 AM.
