Obituary Hugo Bub Harris was born in Eutaw, Alabama on May 8, 1921, and was the twelfth and youngest child of Walter and Mahalia Dea Harris. Both Walter and Dea were farmers and raised their family on a farm at the Old Walker Place in Eutaw, Alabama. With the exception of his oldest brother who died as a child, five of Hugos brothers and his five sisters were all involved in careers and life works that encompassed farm and factory work, teaching, nursing, homemaking, grocery store ownership, property ownership, and property management. Hugo continued in the path of his siblings where, in addition to working as a service technician with Sears Roebuck and Company until his retirement, he was also an entrepreneur, property owner and landlord. Hugo attended grade school in Eutaw, Alabama, and graduated from Tuscaloosa Industrial High School, where he met his former wife, Rosetta Long. Following high school, Hugo served as a soldier in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, who saw active duty on the European front in World War II. While in the Army and before going overseas, on June 20, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosetta Long, at a chapel at the Army Service Forces Depot in Pennsylvania. Following his time in the Army he and Rosetta took up residence in Bridgeport, Connecticut and bought the family home, where Hugo continued to live until his death. While working at Sears Roebuck and Company as a service repair technician (for over 30 years), Hugo spent considerable time developing and expanding the family residence. He was the owner/operator of H&H Appliance, a store which sold used kitchen and household appliances. In the Bridgeport area, he was involved in real estate investing and property management. In his early years of residing in Bridgeport, Hugo attended Messiah Baptist Church which allowed each of his children to have a religious background. He also firmly believed in providing educational and vocational opportunities for his children and supported them in their individual pursuits. On Sunday, January 10, 2016, Hugo passed away quietly at one of his homes in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was blessed to have his caring daughter Jeanette by his side upon his death. Hugo is survived by his former wife, Rosetta Long Harris, his children, Gwendolyn Randall (James), Patrick, Theodore (Lynda), Jeanette and Michael (Wendy); grandchildren Alicia Choinski (Michael), Adam Arrington (Kenna), Bryan Harris, Lonnell Lawson, Jr. (Catherine), Lynnette Lawson, Imani Harris, Lauren and Victoria Harris; great grandchildren Hailey and Amelia Choinski, Jake, Jordan, Samantha, Peyton, and Dylan Arrington/Taylor; Kayla, Tavis (TJ), Nasya, and Jesiah Lawson; and a host of family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, 11am at Salem Lutheran Church, 3160 Park Ave. Bridgeport, CT 06604.
