Hamilton Benjamin Moore Obituary (1923

Hamilton Benjamin Moore Sr. was born on October 14, 1923 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late William and Marion Thompson Moore. Hamp came to Bridgeport , Connecticut in 1948. He attended Bullard Havens Regional Vocational Technical School earning a two year certificate in heating and cooling engineering. Continuing with advanced educational training at Fairfield University ; he earned the unique distinction as the First Black chief power engineer in the State of Connecticut an achievement he regarded as one of the high points in his life. After laboring for 43 years at Bridgeport Hospital , as their chief engineer for 26 years he retired in 1987 with many fond memories and friendships. He has volunteered his time and energy in the neighborhood as coach of the East End Little League , also served as president of the league for two years. His civics duties enabled him for nine years from 1953-1962 to wear the badge of auxiliary officer for the citys police department. Pop Moore went on to occupy his talents with Isaac Funeral Home in 1988 working closely with the late Annette Isaac to its present proprietor Andre Baker of Baker-Isaac Funeral Services. He wears the symbols of honor being a member of Doric Lodge # 4 FAM PHA for 52 years moving through several chapters as Royal Arch Mason , past high priest, Knight Temple #9; and in past commandments. He was married to the late Virginia L. Moore on September 14, 1947 from this union the couple had three children ; Nora E. Moore of Bpt, Gwendolyn Hicks of Ralegh,NC and Hamilton B. Moore Jr. of Bpt, one adopted daughter; Janie ( James) Alston of Dalzell, SC, five grandchildren; Jennifer Jones, Sean Jones, Eric Moore, Shonda Gaddy and Adria Jones, four great grandchildren; Marquis and Amaya Gaddy, Jadin Peoples and Gabrielle Jones, one sister; Susanna Snow, three brothers; William, Sam and Edmund, five sister in-laws; Edith, Laurabelle, Rebecca, Susie and Rosalie Moore, Many, Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Extended family special friend Verdell Gaskins and daughter Wanda Gaskins. Daddy was also adopted by Rev. Tillman and Donna Gives. Funeral services were Saturday, December 9 , 2006 at 10:00 am at Russell Temple C.M.E. Church 555 Connecticut Avenue in Bridgeport. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
