Ethel M. Caldwell Obituary (1926

Sunrise September 9, 1926 ~ Sunset March 20, 2010 Ethel M. McQueen Osborne-Caldwell 83 of Norwalk, Connecticut died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at home with her loving family at her bedside. Mrs. Caldwell was born in Camden, South Carolina on September 9, 1926 daughter to the late Willie McQueen and Ethel Larry. After graduating high school, Ethel relocated to Norwalk, Connecticut where she was a resident for 65 years. Reared in a Christian home she accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. Most recently, she attended new Vision International Ministries in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Until her retirement, she worked in the health care field. Mrs. Caldwell was fond of traditional gospel music particularly Mahalia Jackson. Ethel had the gift of song and used her soprano range in a local choir and in her home. In addition, she enjoyed the sounds of the legendary Brook Benton Rainy Night in Georgia and Dinah Washington What a Difference a Day Makes. Her last birthday was an anomaly in that it was 09-09-09. Though in failing health, she was a venerable voter and lived long enough to cast her vote for the first African American President, Barack Obama. Ethel was known for her ability to resolve challenges, her resilience, kindest to others, a winning smile, and a mouth-watering sweet potato pie. In addition to her daughersArlene Osborne-Applewhite (Norwalk, CT) and Patricia Osborne (Norwalk, CT)survivors include aniece Jessica M. Simms (Norwalk, CT); five great-grandchildren Krystal Preston, Michael A. Applewhite, Jr., Richard L. Dinkins, Jr., Destinee P. Lola Dinkins, and MKaila B. Prezzie;In addition two grandchildren Michael A. Applewhite and Daydra P. Applewhite;special family Adele Fuller-Brown and family along with a host of friends. Her brother James McQueen and her sister Marie Brooks predeceased Mrs. Caldwell.The family is especially thankful for,and Ethel will be missed by her special personal assistants Pauline Glee-Davis; Kimberly Knight, and Gigi Brayboy.
