Clinton Slocum

–

Bridgeport, Connecticut

On October 3, 2018, after many years of a fruitful and, productive life, Clinton Slocum lifted his face towards heaven to answer the roll call from our heavenly Father.
He was born on January 14, 1932 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Levi Thomas Slocum, Jr., and Mahalia Washington Slocum.
At the age of 2 years old his mother died in giving childbirth leaving his father to raise seven children. As a young man Clinton left Bogalusa along with his two older brothers to travel up north to find work. On that journey he landed in Harrison, New York, where he met the beautiful Helen Furman, and they married in 1951.
Clinton and Helen left Harrison and relocated to Bridgeport, CT and to that union they were blessed with 7 beautiful daughters.
He found employment and worked hard for many, many years. He retired from the Connecticut Post as a Truck driver in 1993. Along his journey he joined Christ the Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT where he was an active member.
Clinton loved his family very much, on any given day his grandsons would visit him, and he would greet them by saying "Hey ole buddy" and they would respond and say "Pops you the man". He would interact with his granddaughters and always ask them questions to find out what was going on in their lives to make sure things were good with them. They got a big kick out of how inquisitive he was about their lives. Another thing he would say was "Ill always be the winner", and that he was, in the hearts of those who knew him well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters Juanita Draughn, Vera Ward, Hilda Davis, and Thelma Rudolph and 2 brothers Eugene Slocum Sr. and Albert Slocum Sr.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, wife Helen of 67 years, 7 daughters Cheryl (John deceased) Paul, Janice Slocum, Susan (George) Christy, Pamela (Lyle) Jones, Cathy (Frankie) Jackson, Linda Slocum-Walker and April Slocum. 17 grandchildren Lyle Jr., Lavar, Bobby, Lonnie, LaShonda, Aubrey, George, Candace, Leneil, Andre, Alfred, Anton, Jermaine, Harold, Aaron, Erica, and Ariel. 42 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Brother-in-law Frank (Judy)Furman and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
A chapter completed. A page turned. A life well lived. A rest well earned.
