Clifford Barnett Obituary (1919

Clifford Barnett, age 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016, in his home under the care of VITAS Hospice Care. He was born on September 13, 1919 to the late Will Barnett and Lillie Treadwell Barnett in Roebuck, Alabama. He was the beloved husband of Helen Brown Barnett for 68 years. He graduated from Piper High School in Piper, Alabama and National Youth Association Trade School in South Charleston, West Virginia. He came to Bridgeport in November in 1941 and was employed at Alcoa. That same year he joined Walters Memorial A. M.E. Zion Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and attained the rank of Staff Sargent in the 3689th Quartermaster Truck Company which was part of the Red Ball Express which supplied General Patons Third army in their dash across France. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford and retired after 25 years in service in 1983. He enjoyed creating bonsai trees, maintaining his Japanese garden and reading. In addition to his parents, Clifford was predeceased by his two sisters, Core Maxwell and Ella Harris, four sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law. Beloved survivors include his wife, Helen Brown Barnet, his daughter, Claudia Barnett Kennedy and her husband, Andrew, a grandson, Erik Clifford Green, a great-granddaughter, Saniya Monae Green, an adopted granddaughter, Darina Mitchell, a special niece, Laura Silva, a special grandniece, Pamela Keyes, a brother-in-law, Frederick Brown, a sister-in-law, Ruth R. Brown, a former son-in-law, Willie Green, and several loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff of VITAS Hospice for the kindness and dedicated care the provided for Clifford. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, November 16, from 9 am to 11 am followed by a funeral service officiated by Reverend Elvin Clayton at Baker-Isaac Funeral Services, Inc., 985 Stratford Ave, Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT.
