Arneatha C. Briggs Obituary (1928

Arneatha Caesar Briggs, affectionately known as "Neat", after 92 blessed years on this earth went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Arneatha originates from the Tar Heel state of North Carolina in the City of Durham. The eldest of two children, she was raised in a Christian home, by her father the late Pastor Kato Caesar and mother the late Rhada Rogers Caesar. "Neat" comes from a lineage of pastors, ministers and psalmists, and at the early age of three, she was singing and praising the Lord. During her early childhood, her family relocated to Baltimore, MD., and at the early age of thirteen, "Neat", a gifted and self-taught pianist, began playing the piano in the church her father pastored. As the Lord continued to bless and stir up the gift, she was in great demand as an accompanist and director for several choirs in the Baltimore area. In her mid-twenties, "Neat" married the late Samuel L. Briggs, Sr., and from this union two children were born, Karen Briggs and the late Samuel L. Briggs, Jr. In 1969 the Briggs family moved to Norwalk, CT. Neat was employed at Chesebrough Ponds, Inc. and after 18 years of faithful service she retired. Although she worked in the accounting department, because of her work ethic she was frequently asked to travel with the team that was hand selected to represent the company at functions around the country. "Neat" has been a member in good standing of First Baptist Church in Stratford, CT for over 30 years. At the time of her passing "Neat" was one of the oldest and long standing members of the congregation. In addition to being a 2008 Jewel, she served in several ministries, (the Gospel Choir, New Life Choir, Sympathy Club, Sewing Class for seniors, Drama Club) throughout her tenure at First Baptist; but she is especially remembered for her singing. When "Neat" ministered in song, no one left the church the same. Her powerful, anointed, angelic voice caused burdens to be lifted and yokes were destroyed. "Neat" was a wonderful cook, known for her delicious sweet potato pie and succulent macaroni & cheese; an avid bowler, at the bowling alley she was definitely a force to be reckoned with; and she loved to play scrabble; no one could beat her. "Neat" was also a forward thinking fashion designer. At the age of 76 she graduated from Gibbs College with her Associates Degree. She was on the deans list several times. She is fondly remembered for coordinating fashion shows featuring a variety of her original designs that she also sewed. Arneatha Caesar Briggs, "Neat" was a kind, loving, caring, thoughtful, anointed, blessed woman of God. Her laughter was infectious and her smile brightened up any room when she entered. "Neat" loved life and lived it to the fullest. Most of all she was committed to ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ in song. She will be missed. She leaves to honor and celebrate her life and carry on the legacy, her daughter Karen Briggs; three grandchildren Trista, Wayne and Christian.
